Ingredients (Serves 5 – 8oz each)
2 bananas
1 handful of frozen blueberries
1 teaspoon spirulina powder
2 tbsp cacao nibs
1 tbsp ground flaxseed
1 handful of pistachio nuts (shelled)
2 tsp maca powder (optional)
1 tbsp grass-fed beef gelatin powder
3 cups coconut water

Instructions
Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender (like a Vitamix).
Blend on the smooth setting until everything is fully incorporated.
Pour into glasses and enjoy immediately.

Since we are not using any added sugars or sweetners to this recipe, my vote is to use “over-ripe” bananas to balance the the blueberries and cacao. Since there is a good portion of protein and fat to balance the carbs in the banana you don’t need to worry about them being bad for your blood sugar.
A simple way to adjust the thickness of your smoothie ( some of us like it thick and some of us like it thin) - is to play with the amount of gelatin powder which is a natural thickener. If your smoothie feels too thick with 1 tbsp, reduce to using ½ only. Or increase to 2 tbsp for a thicker ‘shake’ like consistency.
If using Maca powder for the first time start with 1 tsp and slowly increase to 1tbsp for full benefit of this incredible adaptogen.
